Prepping your new diapers

Prepping your new diapers

Woohoo you got some new diapers! It is so excited to get fluff-mail (hopefully the FOMO didn't damage your wallet to bad!) Before you put your new diapers on your little one, follow these steps to prepare your diapers for use:

Step 1: Pre-wash your diaper shells

To properly prepare your new cloth diapers, the initial step is to pre-wash them. Begin by running your diaper shells, including pocket diapers and covers, through a standard wash cycle, using detergent and washing them separately. Pre-washing your diapers will help remove any residue that may be present on the fabric from the manufacturer.

Step 2: Prep your inserts

Next, we need to prep our absorbent pieces! Inserts require different prep because we need to active the fibers and increase their absorbency.

1. Wash your inserts separately from your diaper shells in a hot water cycle with a small amount of detergent. Avoid using fabric softeners, as they can coat the fibers and decrease absorbency.

2. Dry the inserts on high heat in the dryer, or line dry them in direct sunlight. This will help to activate the absorbency of natural fibers, such as cotton or bamboo.

3.Repeat this process a few times(3-4) to fully prep the inserts, ensuring that they reach maximum absorbency.

**do not prep natural fibers (like bamboo and cotton) with synthetic materials like microfibre.
